Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada Has Me Hooked!

As much as it pains me to say this, but until this past summer I had never been to an aquarium.

I’d seen dozens of television shows where kids of all different ages venture to the aquarium on field trips, but never did I have the fortune to be one of them! Then finally, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada opened in Toronto and I got my chance.

I’ve always loved the idea of seeing thousands of colourful fish inside soothing blue tanks. The thought of a giant shark swimming right towards me from behind the glass has always thrilled me. The Ripley’s Aquarium has all of that and more. Continue reading

See Food, Eat Food in Lucy’s Seafood Kitchen

IMG_1614

My family hails from England and the east cost of Canada; so suffice-it-to-say, fish and chips are a staple in our household.

I love seafood. I was raised to love it and will happily slurp oysters, crack lobster and munch mackerel.

When I don’t cook it myself, my favourite place for seafood is Lucy’s Seafood Kitchen in Mississauga, ON. It’s been a fixture in my neighbourhood since 1996. And I’m not the only one who believes that Lucy’s is the best for fish, it has been voted favourite seafood restaurant in Mississauga for the last 10 years!

With its laid-back, intimate atmosphere and cajun twist, I highly recommend stopping in to eat if you’re ever in the area. Hands down the best halibut I’ve ever had (and that’s saying something)! Run by Mississauga local, Len Little and his wife Lucy, this seafood kitchen definitely feels like a family joint.

While seafood tends to run rather expensive, I firmly believe that for what you get Lucy’s prices are reasonable. Though, if you’re looking for a meal under $10 this isn’t the place for you. My family completed the comment card on our table after one of our first visits and each year we get a free meal during the month of our birthday (in my family we wait excitedly all year for our letters).

Support Local Musicians and Local Businesses

Can you imagine sitting in a club watching John Legend sit down at a piano before he was famous? Or watching Bono take the mic in a small, dark pub in Dublin before he was a one name wonder? Continue reading

Snakes & Lattes, The Game Board Cafe?

When I first met my best friend, he told me about this place called Snakes & Lattes, a game board cafe. I have wanted to go everyday since. Who wouldn’t?

I mean, I couldn’t believe that such a place existed, but it does!

It is a cafe located in downtown Toronto that you can visit and play board games while you enjoy coffee, treats and good company.

I have yet to visit, but it is 100% on my list of “Must-visits” in Ontario!

Even though I’ve yet to go, I still wanted to dedicate a post to it as I think it’s a unique place that all those in the Greater Toronto Area should experience at least once. I certainly hope to!

(And if a cup of joe just won’t cut it, and you’re over 19 years of age, you can also visit Snakes and Lagers, the game board bar! Check out their website here for more details on how you can enjoy booze, board games and more.)

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting either of these fascinating places, let me know!
I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The London Children’s Museum, Learning Can Be Fun

IMG_6754

As a child, some of my favourite memories were from field trips to the Science Centre or the Royal Ontario Museum. These trips instilled in me a love of museums and art galleries that has only grown as I have.

While living in London ON, my sisters and I found the cutest little museum geared specifically for children. The London Children’s Museum is an amazing place to visit if you’re in the area and have small children.  Continue reading

Rock Glen, A Natural Fossil Site

IMG_1496_2

With the cold weather upon us (already!), I thought it was time for one last hike this season.

This past summer, one of my co-workers told me about this great little spot tucked away in Arkona, ON called Rock Glen. Ever since I heard about it, I’ve been nagging family and friends to take a trip with me to explore this beautiful spot. This weekend my nagging finally paid off. Continue reading

Halloween, It’s All About the Blood!

Happy Halloween to all of the Trick or Treaters out there!

For weeks now I feel we’ve all been bombarded with images of vampires, zombies and other blood starved creatures of the night. Understandable, because Halloween really is all about the fake blood.

With that on my mind, I decided that today’s post wouldn’t be an Ontario specific activity (necessarily), but something that Canadians all across the country can do on a day off or with an hour of their spare time.

Perfect Hideaway for All Day Breakfast

IMG_1462

Recently, my family has experienced some bad luck as far as health is concerned.

So yesterday, after my younger sister got a clear bill of health from the doctors, we decided to celebrate at one of our favourite all day breakfast places.

Bobby’s Hideaway in Streetsville, ON is just that. Hidden away. While it sits on a main road it is the type of place I’ve driven past hundreds of times without ever noticing. A few years ago, my parents decided to go in and give it a try. Ever since it has become their go-to place for breakfast, visiting it a few times a month.

See the GTA in a Whole New Way

IMG_1420

Three reasons to hike in the fall:

1) The colours
2) Well, Goldilocks, it’s not too hot and not too cold
3) The crisp, clean air

This fall I’ve taken particular advantage of the amazing trails that Ontario has to offer. Living in Mississauga with the Niagara Escarpment so close, I can’t help but explore the beautiful area that I live in.
